Fordlandia's lessons

History is more or less bunk. It's tradition. We don't want tradition. We want to live in the present and the only history that is worth a tinker's dam is the history we made today.
Henry Ford, Interview in Chicago Tribune, May 25th, 1916
US automobile industrialist (1863 - 1947)

This guy was really a genius... of modern times. See what the south American rainforest had to say to his attitude [1]. Fordlandia is a wonderful prologue of what the programs for development of "Third World Nations" has been in the second half of the twentieth century.

The history of the rainforest is encoded in its ecology. And the same could be said for culture in a society.

[1] I could used a more "objective" review of Ford's adventure but it would lack the whole sense of the present Post. This guy parker had just the interpretation I was looking for.
